WASHINGTON – Cattle and calves on feed in feedlots with 1,000 or more head totaled 10.7 million head on Dec. 1, down 5 percent from a year ago, according to the US Department of Agriculture's Agricultural Statistics Service. The inventory is the second-lowest for Dec. 1 since 1996, NASS noted.

November placements declined 3 percent in November to 1.88 million, according to NASS. During November, placements of cattle and calves weighing less than 600 lbs. were 585,000, 600-699 lbs. were 510,000, 700-799 lbs. were 362,000, and 800 lbs. and greater were 425,000.


Marketings of fed cattle during November totaled 1.68 million, a 5 percent decrease compared to November 2012. Other disappearance totaled dropped 17 percent to 73,000 during November.
