AURORA, Ill. – One year after breaking ground, OSI Food Solutions, an OSI Group company, celebrated the opening of its new beef processing facility in Ostróda, Poland. Hamburgers produced at this plant are supplying quick-service restaurants in Eastern Europe, including Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia and the Baltic States, as well as Sweden and Finland.

The new plant replaces an older, leased facility, and represents an investment of $36 million. It includes a three-story, 64,600 sq. ft. processing and storage building and is situated on 27 acres of land purchased by OSI. This could be the base for further investment and development, if needed in the future.

OSI reports the building was designed with significant regard to sustainability, and includes environmentally responsible and resource-efficient measures, such as water-saving faucets, efficient indoor and outdoor LED lighting, renewable energy sources (photovoltaic, wind), above-standard building insulation, chemical-free water treatment system and an energy monitoring system. The facility also used a high percentage of recycled and regional materials in its construction.

OSI also owns a meat plant in Gora, Poland, operating within its Foodworks division, and staffs an office in Warsaw. Although the principal activities of these facilities are related to the primary and secondary processing of beef and beef products, the company said it has the ability to expand to process other protein items as needed.
