WASHINGTON – Commercial hatcheries set 191 million eggs in incubators during the week ending Nov. 2, 2013, up 6 percent from the eggs set during the comparable period a year ago, according to the US Department of Agriculture's National Agricultural Statistics Service. Average hatchability for chicks hatched during the week was 84 percent.

NASS reported 156 million broiler-type chicks were placed for meat production during the week ending Nov. 2. Placements were advanced 3 percent from the comparable week a year ago. Cumulative placements from Dec. 30, 2012, through Nov. 2 were 1 percent higher at 7.22 billion, according to NASS.
