OTTAWA, Ontario – An investigation into a recent outbreak ofE. coliO157:H7 infections prompted a recall of Compliments brand Super 8 Beef Burgers, according to the Canadian Food and Inspection Agency. There have been illnesses associated with consumption of the products.


The meat was distributed to Ontario, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland and Labrador in Sobeys banner stores, which might include Sobeys, Foodland, FreshCo, and Price Chopper, according to CFIA. The 8-oz. beef patties were sold frozen in packages of six with a UPC code of 0 55742 37055 3.

CFIA said the recall may expand to include additional products or "best before" dates as the investigation continues at Belmont Meats Ltd. which manufactures the beef. Toronto-based Belmont Meats is a beef processor and supplier to retail and foodservice operations. The company counts Applebee's and Sysco among its customers. The company runs a 60,000-sq.-ft. facility and employs 180 workers.
