SÁO PAULO, Brazil – Miguel Gularte has been appointed president of JBS SA’s South American operations. Gularte has been working in the meat sector for the last 32 years since he graduated from URCAMP Univ. in the southern Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul majoring in veterinary science.

He began his career at the local cooperative, CICADE, having worked in a number of positions including quality assurance manager, industrial manager and then industrial director before moving to Uruguay in 1996 to work at Frigorifico PUL.

Since his initial position of commercial director of PUL, Gularte became general manager and then president of PUL. In 2011, he headed up the sale of PUL to Minerva Foods. Since then, He has acted as international vice president at Minerva, a position he held until June 2013.
