DALLAS – Columbia Packing Co. plans to re-open a shuttered Dallas meatpacking company within 30 days. The facility spans 40,000 sq. ft.

The City of Dallas Board of Adjustment voted in April 2012 to revoke Columbia Packing's certificate of occupancy. But a judge with Dallas County's 101st District Court ruled the revocation was improper. The ruling allows Columbia Packing to resume meat processing and packing operations at the facility in the east Oak Cliff area of the city. Judge Martin Lowy approved an agreement between the city and Columbia Packing on June 28 that will allow the facility to open.

"We are moving forward to serve our customers, provide much-needed jobs, and continue as an asset to the community," said Joseph Ondrusek Sr., a grandson of the company's founder. "Our family has provided customers with high-quality products in a safe and responsible manner for 100 years. All we've ever wanted is to resume our packing and distribution business, and we're pleased that this agreement with the city is making it happen."

Columbia Packing Co. was founded in 1913 and has been a family owned venture for three generations. The company produces ham, bacon and brisket.
