OTTAWA, Ontario – Information about beef processing and inspection practices are just a mouse click away thanks to a new web-based interactive tool launched by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.

The online resourcesprovide consumers with an overview of beef processing and inspection, food recalls and the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point system. Consumers also will find information about food labeling, safe food handling practices and food-safety risks associated with specific products. The web site is a key initiative under the Safe Food for Canadians Action Plan.

“These new tools clearly explain some of the complex systems that are at work every day to help keep food safe,” said Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz. “By understanding the various safeguards and responsibilities in our food-safety system, Canadians can have greater confidence in Canada's food supply and also see the important role they play in keeping food safe.”
