DOHA, Qatar – Qatar Meat & Livestock Co., known as Widam Food, is planning to diversify into poultry production at a cost of $124 million, according to Bloomberg.

Widam is waiting for a government license to build a processing plant with a capacity for 22 million chickens annually to sell in Qatar. Licensing has been delayed because land and water requirements need more study.

Bloomberg reportedthat Australian lamb accounts for 80 percent of Widam's meat imports. The meat is sold through the company's retail outlets at government subsidized prices.
