SNOHOMISH, Wash. – Now that marijuana is legal in Washington State, what is there to do with the unusable parts of the plant? Cannabis growers and hog farmers have found the answer — put weed in the feed.

Top Shelf Organic is donating stems, root bulbs and oversized leaves to the ranchers at Bucking Boar Farm in Snohomish, Wash. A butcher, William von Schneidau of BB Ranch, said the plants add fiber to the pigs' diets and gives the pork meat more flavor. The partnership reduces waste costs for Top Shelf and reduces feed costs for Bucking Boar, according to the BB Ranch web site.

In March BB Ranch participated in a "Pot Pig Gig", a dinner featuring pork items from the pot pigs. Proceeds of the dinner went to the Market Foundation in support of Pike Place Market and Ranch to Plate, a sustainable foods and culinary arts organization.
