WASHINGTON – Supplies of frozen meat and poultry were higher in April, according to USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service.

Total frozen poultry supplies on April 30, 2013 advanced 11 percent from compared to March, and up 8 percent from 2012, NASS reported. Total stocks of chicken climbed 8 percent from the previous month and gained 11 percent from last year. Total pounds of turkey in freezers increased 14 percent from last month and rose 5 percent from April 30, 2012.


Total red meat supplies in freezers climbed 5 percent from the previous month and gained 3 percent compared to 2012. Total pounds of beef in freezers declined slightly from the previous month and slipped 2 percent from last year. Frozen pork supplies were up 8 percent from the previous month and up 6 percent from last year. Stocks of pork bellies advanced 10 percent from last month but dropped 25 percent compared to year.
