RAEFORD, NC – House of Raeford Inc. announced it will close a poultry processing facility in Hoke County, NC, on July 13. The plant employs more than 1,000 people.

The company filed Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification notices with the North Carolina Department of Commerce. House of Raeford announced in March plans to phase out its commodity turkey growing and slaughter business. A hatchery in Rose Hill, NC, and turkey growing operations in eastern North Carolina will also close.

The company cited high corn prices, declining turkey consumption and falling commodity turkey prices as factors influencing the decision to exit the commodity turkey business.
