OAK BROOK, Ill. — McDonald’s Corp. will add calorie counts to store and drive-thru menu boards next week, said Jan Fields, president of McDonald’s USA.
“At McDonald’s, we recognize customers want to know more about the nutrition content of the food and beverages they order,” Fields said. “As a company that has provided nutrition information for more than 30 years, we are pleased to add to the ways we make nutrition information available to our customers and employees.”
In the fall, Fields said employees working in McDonald’s and franchisee restaurants in the United States will be introduced to a voluntary nutrition “e-learning” program. The initiative is designed to help build employees’ knowledge of calories, nutrition and McDonald’s offerings.
As a possible addition to its menus in 2013, McDonald’s is testing foods designed to increase the number of wholesome offerings available to diners. Among the items being tested include blueberries, cucumbers, grilled chicken choices for Happy Meals, the McWrap, which initially was introduced in Europe, and new breakfast choices that include an egg-white breakfast sandwich on an English muffin made with 8 grams of whole grains.
