AUSTIN, Minn. – A worker at a Hormel Foods plant in Austin, Minn., has been diagnosed with tuberculosis (TB), according to the Associated Press.

The Mower County Public Health Department notified the company about the case. A local television station reported that additional employees are being tested. Hormel officials said no other cases have been found, and the disease does not present a food safety risk.

Tuberculosis is caused by a bacterium that usually attacks the lungs but can attack any part of the body such as the spine, brain or kidneys, according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) in Atlanta. TB is spread through the air from one person to another.
