RIVERTON, Wyo. – A poultry processing facility could be the first to receive a license in Wyoming, according to The Ranger.

Les and Chris Sherrard — a husband and wife team — are nearing completion of a processing building that is on property adjacent to their working ranch. The couple is planning a mid-July opening. The Sherrard’s facility could be the first in Wyoming if it opens before another poultry processing operation planned for Sheridan, Wyo., according to the Wyoming Department of Agriculture.

The Sherrards are trying to secure a grower/producer license that will allow them to raise 1,000 chickens annually for processing and sale, according to The Ranger. The license will allow them to sell their chickens to individuals, retailers, foodservice operations and at farmers markets. They will not be licensed to sell their product across state lines.
