SÃO PAULO, Brazil – JBS SA is considering buying two of three slaughter plants owned by Indepencia SA, a Brazilian meatpacker under bankruptcy protection, according to a report from Bloomberg News.

JBS is considering an offer of R269 million ($142 million), Bloomberg said. Indepencia has been under bankruptcy protection since February 2009. The company’s reported debt is R1.5 billion. The company is trying to sell three slaughterhouses, one tannery, some land and warehouses since May 2011, Bloomberg said.
