SPRINGDALE, Ark. – Early last week, Tyson Foods’ beef subsidiary won two government contracts totaling $268 million granted by the US Department of Defense, reported The City Wire. Both contracts require Tyson to provide fresh beef products for resale at Defense Department commissaries throughout 16 eastern states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. The contracts start March 1 and conclude Feb. 28, 2014.

Of the 19 firms providing bids, Tyson won two of three contracts awarded. Kansas City, Mo.-based National Beef Packing won another bid with an estimated value of $114.8 million.

In other news, a Leadership Shelby County alumni event, sponsored by the Shelby County (Texas) Chamber of Commerce, was held last week and Ty Price, Tyson Foods complex manager in Center, Texas, was a guest speaker. He covered the growth of his business since Tyson bought Holly Farms, in 1989, reported the Light and Champion. Due to this business’ continuous growth and success, Tyson invested $13 million to expand its Center plant in 2011.
