OTTAWA, Ontario – The Public Health Agency of Canada confirmed an additional case of E. coli O157:H7 illness is linked to the XL Foods Inc. recall.

The case under investigation in Quebec was confirmed to be the same specific strain of E. coli O157 found in the XL Foods food safety investigation, the agency said. The person became sick in early October and has since recovered.

Based on all the information collected to date, 17 illnesses have been linked to the specific strain of E. coli O157 found during the XL Foods outbreak investigation. Confirmed cases were in: Alberta (7); Newfoundland and Labrador (1); Quebec (6); and British Columbia (3).

The investigation is continuing, according to the agency.
