ATLANTA – An outbreak of Salmonella Hadar appears to be over, according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) in Atlanta.

The infections were linked to live poultry. A total of 46 people in 11 states were affected, and 13 people were hospitalized. There were no deaths, CDC said. The agency traced the outbreak to a poultry hatchery in Idaho.

Following the outbreak, the CDC recommended mail-order hatcheries, agricultural feed stores, and other companies that sell or display chicks, ducklings, and other live poultry should provide health-related information to owners and potential buyers of these birds before the point of purchase. The information should include the risk of acquiring Salmonella from contact with live poultry.
