Chicago – Newly Weds Foods, Inc., a food ingredient supplier based in Chicago, announced the company’s acquisition of the food-coating business of Continental Mills, Inc., based in Tukwila, Wash. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Continental’s food-coating applications include starch and flour based coatings and batters for potato and poultry products in addition to other “protein and vegetable type substrates,” according to Newly Wed. The deal includes a 55,000 sq. ft. processing plant in Pendleton, Ore. and assets associated directly with this business.

“The industrial food coating business purchased from Continental Mills today is consistent with Newly Weds Foods’ coating expertise and industry-leading position,” said Charles Angell, Newly Weds president. “We see long term benefits arising from inherent values in proprietary products, new product technologies, access to key areas of distribution, an expanded customer base and additional manufacturing capacity,” he concluded.

Newly Weds’ global operations include 14 North America plants and 10 international production facilities including China, Thailand, Australia, the United Kingdom, Holland and the Philippines plus a well-established network of international partners.
