WASHINGTON – The National Hot Dog & Sausage Council is releasing a new charcuterie guide to help consumers prepare sausage and cured meat platters. The guide comes as part of National Sausage Month celebrations.

The new guide will include tips for planning the perfect charcuterie plate to selecting different sausage, cheese and wine combinations. The guide also has an accompanying video.

“National Sausage Month is a perfect time to celebrate the charcuterie trend,” said Janet Riley, NHDSC president and ‘Queen of Wien’. “Few may realize that charcuterie is a French culinary art dating back to the 15thcentury. While charcuterie may often be featured in restaurants, it’s easy to put together one at home.”

The council is also holding a contest in October for the best charcuterie photos. Participants can submit entries on the NHDSC Flickr or Facebook pages. Entries will be judged on food styling and creativity. The grand prize is a $250 gift card for sausage, while two runner-ups will receive new NHDSC t-shirts.
