DAVIS, Calif. – Superior Farms, North America’s largest processor and marketer of lamb, will open a new distribution facility and expanded local distribution in Boston. It also formed a distribution partnership with Crescent Packing, a local meat distributor for the New York metro market. As a result, Boston and New York metro customers will receive the service of a local distributor combined with the resources of the processor.

Superior Farms plans to provide improved customer access and expanded local wholesale delivery options through its new distribution location in south Boston starting Feb. 6. Previously outsourced to freight companies, the company is also adding local delivery service. The new service is intended to provide more frequent delivery options for local Boston and New England wholesale business.

Crescent Packing, Superior Farms’ new distribution partner, will handle customer service, sales and marketing of the Superior Farms brand of lamb in the New York metro area. Founded by Rocky and Larry Cornelia, Crescent Packing began as a USDA-inspected plant that distributes beef, poultry, pork, lamb and veal among other products. It also operates a full-service cutting facility. This location is key for serving Long Island and the five boroughs of New York, as well as New Jersey and Connecticut, the company said.

Ed Jenks, president and CEO of Superior Farms, expects the company to expand this model with additional distribution points on the East Coast.
