WASHINGTON – What’s a celebration without good food on hand — particularly meat and poultry products? Some may be surprised to learn that Super Bowl Sunday (Feb. 5) is expected to be the second-largest food consumption day of the year while Thanksgiving sits comfortably in the pole position, according to the US Department of Agriculture.

On a normal day, the average American will consume approximately 2,000 calories of food. During the Super Bowl, viewers will scarf up that amount of calories in approximately three hours.

Chicken wings, meat snacks, sausage, pizza, popcorn plus chips and dip/salsa are among the most common Super Bowl snacks.
