MOSCOW – According to the international news service, Interfax, Russia is on its way toward sustaining its own poultry supply and, in fact, is able to export up to 250,000 metric tons of poultry in 2012, more than times the volume of the previous year. Export forecasts indicate Russia has the potential to increase export volumes to as much as 400,000 tons by 2015.

This past year, Russia temporarily banned shipments of poultry from the United States over concerns about the use of chlorine used during processing. In 2009, poultry from the US accounted for approximately 20 percent of the poultry consumed in Russia.
