CHEROKEE, IOWA – Tyson Foods’ Cherokee, Iowa processing plant, which produces a variety of deli meats and hot dogs and employs 500 people, is being renovated.

"We’re in the midst of a $5 million renovation project in part of the plant that is currently not in use," Gary Mickelson, Tyson spokesman, told MEATPOULTRY.com. "The intent is to better utilize current assets within the plant and the company."

Once completed, this area could house four slicing lines as well as other equipment designed to help the plant to slice and package various types of deli meats, Mr. Mickelson said.

"The lines will enable us to potentially increase the plant’s production of sliced deli meat and continue to accommodate the needs of our customers," he added. "This project could result in some additional jobs at the plant, said Mr. Mickelson. The project is scheduled to be completed by mid-summer.
