TUCKER, Ga. – Student recruiting grants totaling approximately $180,000 to the six US universities with poultry science departments and 14 other institutions with poultry programs have been approved by the USPOULTRY Foundation. Annual recruiting funds to colleges and universities are provided by the Foundation to attract students to their poultry programs.

The six poultry science departments receiving the grants include Texas A&M, $29,499; North Carolina State, $20,126; Univ. of Arkansas, $19,043; Auburn Univ., $17,580; Mississippi State, $17,418; and the Univ. of Georgia, $16,334.

Fourteen other institutions with poultry science programs receiving recruiting grants under the Foundation's Poultry Science Education Funding Program include Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, Ga., $6,000; California State Univ., Calif., $7,000; Clemson Univ., SC, $2,333; Crowder College, Mo., $2,472; Georgia Tech, Ga., $2,333; Iowa State Univ., Iowa, $1,600; Jones Junior College, Miss., $7,000; Louisiana State Univ., Louisiana, $5,500; Modesto Junior College, Calif., $6,500; Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College, Okla., $1,000; Penn State Univ., Pa., $7,000; Richmond Community College, NC, $5,000; Stephen F. "It is critical that we persist in attracting sharp young people to study for careers in the poultry industry," said Gary Cooper, USPOULTRY chairman, and COO of Cooper Farms, Oakwood, Ohio. "We need bright young managers to join our companies today, as they will ultimately be the leaders of tomorrow. USPOULTRY Foundation recruiting grants play an important role encouraging students to enroll in poultry studies.”

US Poultry & Egg Association established the USPOULTRY Foundation in 1994 to provide student recruiting funds to universities with poultry science departments. In 2004, the Poultry Science Education Funding Program was added to the Foundation's umbrella so other colleges and universities that offer identifiable poultry science studies are eligible to apply for recruiting grants. Application must be made for these grants, which provide up to $7,000 each.
