WASHINGTON – on July 1, all cattle and calves in the United States and Canada combined totaled 113.9 million head, down 1 percent from the 115.1 million on July 1, 2010, according to the Department of Agriculture. All cows and heifers that have calved, at 45.8 million head, were down 1 percent from a year ago.

As of July 1, all cattle and calves in the US totaled 100.0 million head, 1 percent below the 101.1 million on July 1, 2010. All cows and heifers that have calved, at 40.6 million head, were down 1 percent from one year ago.


As of July 1, all cattle and calves in Canada totaled 13.9 million head, down 1 percent from the 14.0 million on July 1, 2010. All cows and heifers that have calved, at 5.18 million, were down 2 percent from a year ago.
