NEW YORK — As part of a campaign to promote new menu items, Outback Steakhouse launched a 1 million free steak dinner giveaway. Dubbed ‘The Great Aussie Steak Out’, the program is designed to introduce consumers to the company’s wood-fire grill and to promote Outback’s new menu offerings.

“The introduction of our new wood-fire grill, in addition to our classic seasoned and seared cooking method, provides our customers with more choice in how they’d like their steaks prepared,” said Jeff Smith, president. “Additionally, the wood-fire grill gives us a big platform to innovate new and exciting products,”

Outback’s wood-fire grill preparation is now available for its signature steaks, chicken and seafood dishes. The new wood-fire grill steaks are lightly seasoned and flame-grilled over oak wood, which delivers an outdoor grill flavor.

“The new wood-fire grill option for steak is designed specifically to give that smoky flavor you can only find by grilling over natural oak wood,” said John Li, senior vice president of research and development. “We’re now able to let our customers choose exactly how they prefer their steak grilled and flavored.”

Outback diners still have the choice to order their steak prepared with Outback’s “seasoned and seared” grilling method – Each steak is aged and hand-trimmed.

Outback has also expanded its menu offerings to include new items including Mediterranean Chicken Flatbread Aussie-Tizer to an Aussie Chicken Cobb Salad.
