MCLEAN, Va. – The Foundation of the Food Processing Suppliers Association (FFPSA) has awarded 10 Career Development Scholarships for the 2011-2012 academic year valued at $3,000 per scholarship. The winners include family members of employees from FPSA member companies Marel Townsend, Reiser, JE Grote, Provisur Technologies, SPX Flow Technology, Rath Gibson and Marel Meat Processing.

More than 200 applications were submitted to the independent selection committee.

“The Foundation of FPSA is pleased to be able to provide these scholarships to the deserving employees and families of our member companies,” said Viggo Nielsen, Foundation chairman and president of Mettler-Toledo Safeline. “The Foundation is proud to continue this program and I urge all eligible employees and family members to participate in the 2012-2013 application process, which will begin in early 2012.”

In 2005, the Foundation of FPSA established the Career Development Scholarship Program as a unique benefit to FPSA members. It was created to promote the career and professional development of FPSA member employees who work full time and their immediate family members.

Since its inception in 1983, the FPSA Foundation has focused on supporting the growth of the food industry. During this time, it has touched the lives of more than 2,000 individuals in the early years of their careers through its grants, scholarships and stipends. Many of these individuals are now employed in food and dairy science programs in the nation's universities; in major food, dairy and beverage processing companies; and many in FPSA member companies.
