ROSEMONT, Ill. – US Foodservice, has purchased Ritter Food Service, a division of The Pennfield Corporation. Based in Mount Joy, Pa., Ritter, is a specialty distributor of high-quality poultry, meat and seafood, including the Pennfield Farms brand. Terms of the acquisition were not announced.

Ritter services more than 1,000 customers, which include local retailers and restaurants in Pennsylvania, Maryland and New Jersey. Ritter's operations will become part of the US Foodservice Allentown, Pa., division.


"This acquisition gives our customers access to Ritter's broad selection of high-quality poultry, beef, pork, fresh and frozen seafood,” said Jeff Baldasano, division president, US Foodservice-Allentown. “As important, Ritter customers now have access to more than 40,000 national brand products and US Foodservice's own high-quality, private-label items, along with other food-related items."

US Foodservice is a leading foodservice distributor offering more than 350,000 national brand products and its own private-label items, ranging from meats to produce to frozen foods. The company employs approximately 25,000 people in more than 60 locations nationwide. US Foodservice provides food and related products to more than 250,000 customers, including independent restaurants, government operations, healthcare and hospitality entities, educational institutions and prominent multi-unit restaurant companies.

Earning approximately $19 billion in annualized revenue, the company is based in Rosemont, Ill., and jointly owned by funds managed by Clayton, Dubilier & Rice Inc. and Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co.
