SHAWNEE MISSION, Kan. – Seaboard Foods plans to donate a portion of its March pork loin sales, up to $50,000, to the Japanese Red Cross for relief programs following the March 11 earthquake and tsunami that devastated portions of Japan.

It will also participate in the US Meat Export Federation’s Japan Relief Program to donate pork products that will address the long-term needs of feeding Japanese families. Seaboard also will double-match employee donations to Japan relief efforts through its Seaboard Matching Gift Program.

"Since this devastating natural disaster, our concerns have been for the safety and well-being of our Japanese business partners and their families," says Rod Brenneman, president and CEO. "We recognize they will face many challenges ahead and we're hopeful our support will assist in meeting the current and upcoming needs of our Japanese friends."

Each year Japan imports approximately 1 billion lbs. of US pork. Seaboard Foods is a leading exporter of US pork to Japan under the Seaboard Farms and St. Joe Pork brands.
