CARMAN, Manitoba – Up to $2.8 million (US$2.9 million) will be loaned to Plains Processors to upgrade its provincially inspected meat plant to meet federal standards, which will expand their market access. Canada’s Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz made the announcement.

A part of Canada's Economic Action Plan, the $60-million (US$61 million) Slaughter Improvement Program makes federal repayable contributions available to support sound business plans aimed at reducing costs, increasing revenues and improving operations of meat packing and processing operations in Canada.

Funded under the Slaughter Improvement Program, this Canada Economic Action Plan initiative will help cattle producers in Manitoba and the surrounding areas to be provided access to a federally inspected red meat processing facility.
