JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Russ Kremer, a Missouri-based hog farmer and leader of a group of 51 family farmers who sell meat under the Heritage Acre Foods brand, is installing what’s being called the first 100% biodiesel-powered, zero-waste pork processing plant in the US, according to a story published in Fast Company.

Kremer farms pasture-raised, hormone-free hogs are fed a diet of soy, corn, and oats.

According to their plan, after Heritage Acre Foods pork is processed, the waste will be captured and reprocessed in a biodiesel plant that runs generators, that will, in turn, supply power for the processing facility. Extra power required by the facility will be provided by solar and wind power and stored in battery packs provided by Corvus Energy, a lithium-ion battery company.
