WICHITA, Kan. – Cargill Inc. cancelled the second production shifts on Feb. 1 at its two Iowa pork plants ahead of a winter storm that brought heavy, blowing and drifting snow and cold to the US Midwest starting on Feb. 2. Tyson Foods Inc. also had reduced pork and poultry production at some of its plants due to the storm.

According to a Reuters report, the two Cargill plants affected are in Ottumwa and Beardstown, Iowa. Meanwhile, Tyson suspended or reduced production at approximately six poultry plants in Arkansas and southwest Missouri. Tyson's Columbus Junction, Iowa pork plant was closed on Feb. 1 while the Logansport, Ind. pork plant was not planning to run a first production shift on Feb. 2.
