GAINESVILLE, Ga. — Tom Hensley, president of poultry company Fieldale Farms Corp., which has locations in north Georgia, was among those expressing concern at a public hearing in Gainesville about proposed immigration legislation, according to The Associated Press. He was among the speakers at the Georgia Senate committee hearing on Feb. 22.

Despite measures to ensure the company hires documented workers, the anti-immigrant climate in the state has driven the Latino workers he depended on away from his business, Hensley said. He added comprehensive changes in immigration rules are needed at the national level.

Other speakers said they're in favor of state restrictions, saying the federal government hasn't shown it can deal with the issue.
