WASHINGTON – On Nov. 30 the House of Representatives, in a bipartisan vote of 235-188, passed the Workforce Democracy and Fairness Act (HR 3094). According to the American Meat Institute, this act is a response to recent decisions by the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) to accelerate the pace of labor elections and allow for unionization by smaller groups, rather than entire communities of interest.

HR 3094 would require that no election can occur until at least 35 days have passed since the petition has been filed for an election. The NLRB is also required to go back to the regular ‘community of interest’ definition when determining the appropriate employees eligible for unionization.

AMI signed a letter, along with 243 other private and state organizations, supporting the bill.
