WASHINGTON – On Nov. 1, cattle and calves on feed for slaughter market in the US for feedlots with capacity of 1,000 or more head totaled 11.9 million head, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service, Agricultural Statistics Board, US Department of Agriculture. The inventory was 4 percent above Nov. 1, 2010. This is the second-highest Nov. 1 inventory since the series began in 1996.

During October, placements in feedlots totaled 2.49 million, 1 percent below 2010. Net placements were 2.40 million head. During October, placements of cattle and calves weighing less than 600 lbs. were 805,000; 600-699 lbs. were 600,000; 700-799 lbs. were 501,000; and 800 lbs. and greater were 585,000.


Marketings of fed cattle during October totaled 1.79 million, 3 percent above 2010. Other disappearance totaled 93,000 during October, 50 percent above 2010.
