OAK BROOK, ILL. — McDonald’s Corp. on Nov. 9 said global comparable sales increased 3.3% in October and 4.2% year-to-date. System-wide sales for restaurants worldwide, meanwhile, increased 10.3%, or 5.2% in constant currencies, during October.
"Our customers are at the heart of everything we do, and McDonald’s is delivering what they want," said Jim Skinner, chief executive officer. "Our everyday, predictable value, outstanding menu and convenience continue to make us the preferred choice for a growing number of customers."
U.S. comparable sales at the Oak Brook-based fast-food chain were relatively flat in October, but continued to outpace the overall quick-service restaurant industry, McDonald’s said. The company attributed the momentum to strength in the Dollar Menu, premium Angus burgers and McCafe espresso-based coffees.
European comparable sales were up 6.4% due to positive results in the United Kingdom, France and Germany. Throughout Europe, McDonald’s said its premium menu options contributed to sales growth. Also in October, McDonald’s said comparable sales rose 4.7% in Asia/Pacific/Middle East and Africa. The segment’s performance was fueled by Japan and Australia, partly offset by China, McDonald’s said.
