MCLEAN, Va. – Winners of the Meat Industry Suppliers Alliance (M.I.S.A.) Foundation Meat Science Scholarship and the M.I.S.A./Siemens Scholarship have been announced. The scholarships will be used towards completing the winners’ respective degrees within the meat sciences discipline.

Lane Stoll of the University of Saskatchewan, Maria Tenorio-Bernal of Michigan State University and Daniela Bautista of North Carolina State University have each been awarded the $5,000 M.I.S.A. Foundation Scholarship. Clint Stevenson of North Carolina State University has been awarded the $10,000 MISA/Siemens Scholarship.

“We had a real strong group of students competing for the scholarship awards this year,” said Craig Hess, chairman of the M.I.S.A. Foundation and president of Speco Inc. “The interest from the student population continues to grow and this is a great sign for the future of the industry.”

One M.I.S.A. Foundation goal is to annually fund scholarships through interest monies which are drawn from a principal fund of donations. The foundation provides grants to students studying meat or food science fields through donations from individuals, companies and organizations. The ultimate purpose is to assist the meat and related food industries by identifying and developing students with the intellect and technical skills that can advance and enhance the total industry.
