WASHINGTON — The US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced on June 27 that Gaiser’s European Style Provisions Inc., based in Union, NJ, is recalling over 143,416 lbs of bologna due to misbranding.
The ready-to-eat bologna products contain meat or poultry source materials that were not listed on the product label, FSIS explained.
The following items, produced between March 20 and June 20, 2025, are subject to recall:
- Vacuum-packed packages of “FAMILY TREE BOLOGNA VEAL” containing undeclared pork.
- Plastic-wrapped packages of “BABUSHKA’S RECIPE CHICKEN BOLOGNA” containing undeclared pork.
- Plastic-wrapped packages of “FANCY BOLOGNA” labeled with pork as an ingredient but containing undeclared beef and chicken.
- Vacuum-packed packages of “GAISERS RUSSIAN BRAND DOKTORSKAYA BOLOGNA” containing undeclared beef.
- Plastic-wrapped packages of “GAISERS BOLOGNA VEAL” containing undeclared chicken and pork.
- Plastic-wrapped packages of “GAISERS TURKEY BOLOGNA” containing undeclared chicken and pork.
- Plastic-wrapped packages of “CHICKEN BOLOGNA KYPOYKA PABA” containing undeclared pork.
The products bear the establishment number “EST. 5385” inside the USDA mark of inspection. They were distributed to wholesale and retail locations nationwide. Some of the items would have been weighed, wrapped and labeled onsite at retail locations at the time of purchase, FSIS said.
The inspection agency discovered the problem after the Office of Inspector General (OIG) received a complaint through its hotline and notified FSIS.
FSIS investigated the complaint and determined that the products contain source materials not declared on the product label.
The agency noted that it does not expect any adverse health effects from the recalled products, and no reports of adverse reactions due to consumption have been confirmed.
