AUSTIN, MINN. — Jeffrey M. Ettinger has returned to lead Hormel Foods Corp. as interim chief executive officer, and John Ghingo has been named president of the company. Both will assume their new roles on July 14. They will replace James P. Snee, who announced his plans to retire as president and CEO in January.
Ettinger’s role as interim CEO will last for 15 months, according to the company. At the end of that period it is expected Ghingo will assume the role of CEO and president of the company.
Ghingo is currently executive vice president for Retail, Hormel Foods’ largest business unit. He also has worked for Mondelez International Inc. and was president of Applegate Farms LLC.
“It’s an incredible honor to be named the 11th president of Hormel Foods, and I’m grateful to the board for their trust and confidence,” Ghingo said. “I returned to the company last year because the history, people, culture and portfolio of iconic brands truly set us apart in the industry. I’m excited to build on that foundation and help shape what’s next.”
Ettinger was president and CEO of Hormel Foods from 2005 to 2016. He was serving as chairman of the board for The Hormel Foundation, the company’s philanthropic arm, before his current appointment.
