SPRINGFIELD, ILL. — JBS Live Pork faces a class action lawsuit from a former employee who alleged the company did not properly compensate employees at its Beardstown, III., pork facility.

The complaint was filed by Darrin Force in the US District Court for the Central District of Illinois, regarding possible violations of the Illinois Minimum Wage Law. The case was filed with the court in February.

Force worked at the plant from 2018 until 2022 and expects to represent more than 500 current and former employees who regularly worked at least 37.5 hours per week in the past three years.

Force and other class members stated they would spend a minimum of 30 minutes a day performing pre-shift and post-shift work activities, which they were not compensated for.

The lawsuit is seeking unpaid wages, damages, penalties and interest, along with attorney’s fees and expert fees.
