DAKOTA CITY, NEB. — Tyson Fresh Meats will face almost $28,000 in fines from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) after a worker died at its Dakota City, Neb., facility in January.
An inspection report from the agency explained that an employee suffered a fatal injury after working on a machine that moved products within the plant. An electronic sensor for a crane to lower was activated while the person was lying under a machine.
OSHA also found that energy control procedures were not properly outlined to employees before the incident.
Initially, there were three OSHA citations for this incident in Nebraska, but one was dropped.
