ARLINGTON, VA. — The Meat Institute encouraged members of Congress to approve a reconciliation bill, One Big Beautiful Bill Act, meant to bring stability to the US economy and protect tax relief for meat and poultry companies. As of May 20, the legislation had almost 1,000 endorsements.

Budget.house.gov said the bill is backed by the White House, congressional leaders and stakeholders from across the country, and will lock in tax cuts for families and small businesses; open up energy production in the United States; rein in regulatory overreach; root out waste, fraud and abuse in US government bureaucracy; and secure US borders and strengthen the US military in a fiscally responsible way.

“The Meat Institute applauds the House’s efforts to finalize the One Big Beautiful Bill because it includes critical tax relief for meat and poultry companies looking to modernize their operations,” said Meat Institute president and chief executive officer, Julie Anna Potts. “Our members looking to innovate and grow can take advantage of the bonus depreciation for machinery and equipment purchases and immediately expense investments in important research and development.”

Other meat and poultry industry associations with positive comments on the bill include the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA) and the National Turkey Federation (NTF).

“Chairman GT Thompson’s House ag reconciliation bill contains key wins for America’s cattle farmers and ranchers,” said Tanner Beymer, executive director of the NCBA. “From boosting disaster recovery programs to strengthening foreign animal disease detection and prevention, this bill protects America’s livestock producers. Cattle producers continue to face emerging animal health threats but have not received the financial resources necessary to mitigate these threats in previous emergency legislative packages. The need for these investments is crucial. NCBA urges all House Agriculture Committee members to swiftly pass this bill.”

“The National Turkey Federation supports efforts to strengthen the nation’s animal health infrastructure through targeted investments and enhanced response tools, which are essential to maintaining the United States' ability to manage animal disease outbreaks,” NTF said. “As highly pathogenic avian influenza continues to affect turkey producers, Chairman GT Thompson’s House agriculture reconciliation bill offers a timely and necessary step toward improving preparedness for both current and future animal health challenges. NTF appreciates the House Agriculture Committee’s attention to this critical issue and urges continued bipartisan collaboration to protect American animal agriculture and the food supply.”
