NEWPORT BEACH, CALIF. — Chipotle Mexican Grill is shuffling its leadership team.
The company has named Jason Kidd as its chief operating officer, effective May 19. As COO, Kidd will oversee the operations of Chipotle’s 3,800 restaurants.
Chipotle said its COO position has been vacant since August 2024.
At that time, former COO Scott Boatwright was named interim chief executive officer. Boatwright was later named permanent CEO in November 2024.
Kidd joins the company from Taco Bell, where he most recently was global COO. He also has been president at Hearing Lab Technology LLC, president and COO at 99 Cents Only Stores and senior vice president of operations of South Division for Sam’s Club.
“Kidd brings proven accomplishments and a wealth of knowledge that will further support our 130,000 team members in our restaurants with delivering exceptional hospitality to our guests,” Boatwright said. “His vast operational experience at large scale multi-unit retail will bring a strong foundation and new strategic thinking to our executive team.”
Chipotle President and Chief Strategy Officer Jack Hartung, who joined the company in 2002, is stepping down from his role on June 1.
Hartung, the company said, will stay on as a senior adviser through early March 2026. Hartung is set to retire sometime in 2026.
Prior to Hartung’s position as president and chief strategy officer, which he was named Oct. 1, 2024, he most recently was chief financial and administrative officer for the company.
Adam Rymer was promoted from vice president of finance to CFO for the company, succeeding Hartung.
The company said Curt Garner, current chief customer and technology officer, is expanding his responsibilities and will oversee supply chain as president, chief strategy and technology officer, effective June 1.
“Jack’s contributions to Chipotle over nearly three decades are immeasurable, and I’m extremely grateful for his leadership, guidance and friendship,” Boatwright said. “Jack’s selfless decision to delay his retirement and aid the organization through our leadership transition will never be forgotten, and I extend my sincerest gratitude for the instrumental role he played in ensuring Chipotle always delivered on its purpose.”
Chipotle also has promoted Chris Brandt, chief brand officer, to president, chief brand officer.
Brandt will help lead menu and ingredient processes for the company.
