IOWA FALLS, IOWA — Pork company Iowa Select Farms praised a longtime employee, John Hoffman, who retired after 30 years of farming and farrowing.

Hoffman began working with Iowa Select in 1995 and currently leads Fonken Sow 26, a 4,000-head sow farm that works on health status, strong production performance and consistent results.

“John is one of the most dedicated employees I’ve worked with,” said Chris Nydegger, the supervisor of Sow 26. “He’s incredibly dependable, always willing to jump in and help, and his attention to detail is second to none. We’re really going to miss him.”

Hofmann also received admiration from Dan Dean, a breed-to-wean director and former supervisor.

“I never had to worry about Sow 26 because John was always reliable,” Dean said. “His dedication to the farm is unmatched — he managed the site as if he owned it!”
