WASHINGTON — The US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) issued a public health alert on May 1 for ground beef products sold by Bismillah Halal Meats, a retail market in Marietta, Ga., due to possible E. coli O103 contamination.

A recall was not issued since the products are no longer available for purchase.

The raw ground beef products were produced under the retail exemption and do not bear an establishment number or the USDA mark of inspection.

FSIS said the products were produced and sold directly to consumers between April 10 and 23. All items were weighed, wrapped and labeled in-store at the time of purchase.

FSIS discovered the problem during retail surveillance. A sample was collected, and the results showed the presence of E. coli.

There have been no confirmed reports of illness due to consumption of the ground beef products, according to the agency.
