OTTAWA, ONTARIO — The Canadian Meat Council (CMC) confirmed last week it launched the Protein PACT sustainability framework, planned for use throughout the meat processing sector for Canadian companies.
The Protein PACT, which the Meat Institute developed, will allow CMC members to collaborate and pre-competitively advance the sustainability of the animal processing sector.
“Canada’s red meat processing sector have sophisticated science-based practices and outcomes across their establishments and systems in place,” said Chris White, president and chief executive officer for CMC. “This initiative will provide a vehicle to broadly communicate these initiatives and demonstrate our leadership to key stakeholders.”
The Canadian trade group added the Protein PACT is designed to partner with stakeholders across the animal protein industry and help with global sustainable development goals.
“By uniting industry stakeholders under a common framework, the Protein PACT will ensure that Canada’s meat processors can continuously improve their operations to achieve the highest standards of sustainability, transparency, and accountability,” said Julie Anna Potts, president and chief executive officer of the Meat Institute.
