WASHINGTON – The US Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) confirmed that it would return the July Cattle Inventory report and the County Estimates for Crops and Livestock.

During April 2024, both reports were discontinued by the agency. Lawmakers and trade groups asked the USDA to restore the reports after their cancellation.

NASS released a cattle report in January, but in the past, the stakeholders received assessments on the cattle market every six months.

The National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA) was pleased with the news citing the importance of the data to farmers and ranchers.

“The return of the July Cattle Report and County Estimates is a big win for cattle producers who utilize these reports to efficiently run their operations and make important marketing decisions,” said Tanner Beymer, executive director of government affairs at NCBA. “These reports are not costly to produce and the amount they are used by the US agriculture sector make them extremely cost-effective. NCBA thanks USDA-NASS for bringing back these vital reports and continuing to deliver timely, accurate, and useful statistics that bring transparency to livestock markets across the country.”

The new July cattle report is scheduled to come out on July 25.
