INDIANAPOLIS — A man who has been arrested and charged with seven counts of arson is suspected to have caused a fire at a Tyson Foods warehouse in Indianapolis.
On Jan. 1, the Indianapolis Fire Department was called to the scene of several fires that broke out on the southeast side of Indianapolis, including one at Tyson Foods, that were believed to have been intentional acts of arson, according to a post on X from the fire department.
A spokesperson from Tyson Foods verified the details of the incident and clarified that the warehouse was being leased by the meat processor through a company called Scout. While IFD estimated that the fire caused approximately $160,000 in damage, the Tyson Foods spokesperson said there was no damage to any Tyson Foods property.
When arriving on the scene, IFD found heavy smoke and fire coming from the northwest side of the building. Within half an hour, firefighters were able to gain control of the flames, with no injuries reported.
The warehouse was empty except for shelving used to store goods, noted IFD.
“Squatters seeking shelter may be to blame for fire inside an unoccupied Tyson warehouse located at 1301 S Keystone,” IFD posted on Instagram as its original theory the day of the fire.
The fire department’s investigation later identified Donnie Woosley as a suspected player in the Tyson fire as well as at least five other incidents. Woosley currently awaits trial at the Community Justice Center.
