FORT MORGAN, COLO. — Cargill Inc. recently confirmed that it completed the first phase of a project that works on the housing shortage in Fort Morgan, Colo., where a company facility is located.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held to celebrate the construction of 10 townhomes for Cargill employees. Cargill expects an additional 17 townhomes to be completed by spring 2025 and 89 apartments anticipated to open by fall 2025.
The company stated that it backed a $35 million investment in partnership with Portmanteau, a Colorado property development company, to construct around 115 rental housing options.
Cargill added that it provided a $300,000 grant to the United Way of Morgan County, Boys and Girls Club, and Morgan County Family Center to support fifth-day operations, homebuyer navigation and education, and home, child, and youth action teams. In 2022, the company provided a $200,000 grant to fund a ‘housing action committee’ composed of the United Way and other local stakeholders working on additional solutions to solve the region’s housing shortage.
During April 2024, Cargill broke ground on some of the housing projects.
